Prince’s City – Purple Clouds

This vibrant painting, depicting the southern skyline, and some major Minneapolis landmarks is overlooked by perhaps Minneapolis’ favorite child. Prince.

In this tribute to the musical artist born Prince Rogers Nelson, I intended to reflect the city’s love affair with one of the most accomplished musicians in Minneapolis history.  He sold over 100 million records worldwide, was said to “make a guitar weep” and packed a powerful charisma that got the attention of the world, shook heteronormative standards everywhere, and brought attention to the Black Lives Matter movement.

His home “Paisley Park” is depicted graphically as a layout on the city of his birth, where many celebrate his musical and rhetorical influence.

15″ x 30″ watercolour painting on stretched canvas.
Varnished for protection.
