This was a test of the Monte Marte water colour pencils. They were much too hard for my taste so I did some research and ordered more expensive pencils. *Glee* 😁

It was kind of fitting that the Monte Marte pencils didn’t lay down very saturated as I was drawing a white bird, and it helped keep some of the reflected colors more (sufficiently) subtle than I would probably have made them otherwise. I usually like to over emphasise tints and reflected light because it adds a vibrancy to an art piece that real life contains naturally. I use the visual energy / colors to convey the vibrancy that real life gives us often through other senses.
After frustrating attempts to get a reproduction I could be happy with I did go in and add some vibrancy and smoothness of the sky with a prismacolor pencil and a colorless blending pencil. It did make the air currents more visible and less subtle which changed my original idea, but I hope it conveys the feeling of freedom and flight. Now I can happily believe all is complete.
